Meet our Police & Crime Commissioner – David Lloyd

24/03/2013

Last October 41 new police and crime commissioners were elected including David Lloyd in Hertfordshire. This is one of the government’s flagship policies and the most significant democratic policing reform in our lifetime. The real test will now be how we all adapt and work with these powerful new local figures who have a mandate to cut crime, set the strategic direction for our police force and, above all, ensure that our communities are kept safe through partnership work and effective and efficient policing.

We have invited David to come and explain his role and share with us his vision for policing at our open meeting on April 16th at the Baptist Church on Penn Road.

PSNW will give you an update on progress in Neighbourhood Watch and introduce a new community initiative we are planning for the area, Speed Watch.

Our neighbourhood police sergeant will say a few words about local crime and there will be plenty of time for you to put questions to any of the speakers.

Everyone is welcome. Tea and coffee is being served from 19:45

Burglary News

12/01/2013

The November data has been released for crimes in our area on the police website www.police.uk showing 3 burglaries, taking the total for 2012 to 30 compared with 47 for the first 11 months of 2011. Of the three burglaries, one took place in or close to Hampden Place, one on Frogmore and one in The Mall.

The one in The Mall occurred over the weekend of the 17thand 18th and bore hallmarks of being carried out by a slim youth who forced a narrow downstairs window and then climbed through. Having stolen some cash, watches and silverware the thief left by the same window.

The owners have since marked their property, fitted locks to the downstairs windows, an alarm and CCTV significantly improving their security.

Amongst the silverware taken were a pair of candlesticks that had sentimental value and we would very much like to get them returned.

01/06/2012 Neighbourhood Watch Week 16 - 24 June

As part of National Neighbourhood Watch Week PSNW are helping to organise a litter pick on Sunday June 17th.

We will start in the recreation ground on Park street Lane at 10:00 am. We have a small number of litter pick sticks and bag hoops for volunteers who would like to help get litter off our streets and out of our parks.

We will also be promoting membership of Neighbourhood Watch and the Owl messaging service throughout the week. If you know someone in the area who might benefit from the service please get in touch.

08/03/2012 Crime Prevention meeting on Tuesday April 3rd

Little consolation if you have been the victim of crime, but figures show that for the second year running crime in Hertfordshire has fallen by over 5% and the crime detection rate has also shown an improvement.

PSNW are organising a public meeting on Tuesday April 3rd at the Baptist Church on Penn Road starting at 8 o'clock. Ian Dowse, an experienced Crime Prevention Officer with Herts Police, will give a talk with advice on how to prevent burglaries. Ian will also cover metal thefts, in particular what the public, can do to help combat this scourge.

We will provide an update on progress in Neighbourhood Watch and copies of the PSNW spring newsletter will be issued to coordinators for onward distribution to members. There will be ample opportunity to put your questions to Ian or PSNW.

Tea and coffee will be provided free and attendees can discuss and help shape our local policing priorities.
