Angry residents fume over rat run road

RESIDENTS are taking a stand and calling on Redbridge Council to do something about their roads being used as a rat run.

People in Chelmsford Road, South Woodford, say their road is becoming dangerous because motorists are not paying attention to signs barring them from entering.

Frank Cruder, of the Chelmsford and Derby Road Neighbourhood Watch, said: "People are sick and tired of these roads getting used as a shortcut between the High Road and the New Road.

"We have called for so many things to be done, but nothing ever seems to happen."

Fellow Chelmsford Road resident Jill Rodgers concurred with Mr Cruder's point, saying there were other issues that came up.

The mother-of-two explained: "You have parents pushing their children along the road, and those kids are in buggies, which are at exhaust height.

"You find there are a lot of children with asthma – and the pollution these extra cars cause has something to do with it."

Redbridge Council officer, Cliff Woolnoth, said: "We understand this is a problem, and there are things we can do.

"It is about trying to find out what and when we can do them."
