Remember – people you meet in the street, at the door or a voice on the phone may TELL you they are from a company or service.

ALL YOU KNOW is that they SAY they are from those companies. They are complete strangers - why give them information about yourself, your finances or your movements?

Giving out personal details or information about your availability or whereabouts is dangerous - it is, after all, a stranger on the phone. As stated above, all you KNOW is that this is a strange voice on the phone. The company may or may not exist. The person may or may not be from that company. Generally speaking, if it sounds too good to be true then IT IS.

Emails and The internet have provided more recent – and often anonymous – opportunities for tricksters and thieves to operate. Many such scams operate because of people’s ignorance or carelessness in dealing with technological advances which they do not understand fully. Other such scams simply play on gullibility or greed.
